It’s done – OnePlus 5 launch event is over and the device we were waiting for has been released. And while we had come to know enough about its specs from a week of official leaks and months of unofficial leaks, there was certainly a lot of other interesting stuff revealed at the launch event. Let’s take a look at it:

Hardware Specifications and Connectivity

Specifications

First of all let’s talk about the specs. OnePlus didn’t focus a lot on them and all of them were shown in a single slide, because according to company this device is about a lot more than the specs alone. It’s packed with Snapdragon 835 processor, 5.5-inch full-HD AMOLED display, 20mp+16mp primary camera, 16mp secondary camera, 3300 mAh battery with Dash charge support (QuickCharge equivalent of OnePlus) and RAM options of 6GB or 8GB. The 6GB RAM version will come with 64GB of storage, and 8GB version comes with 128GB storage. The Universal Flash Storage technology about which we wrote recently is also present, and all the specs fall in-line with other leaks as well.

There’s a ceramic fingerprint sensor in the device, which according to company is capable of unlocking it within 0.2 seconds. Popular connectivity features are also present, which include Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and Cat 12 LTE.

Design

Design-wise this device is pretty sleek, and for that reason OnePlus is calling it “the slimmest flagship smartphone.” Other design elements, as you know already, seem inspired from iPhone 7 Plus. The only major difference between both of them is the Home button on front, which resembles the look of buttons found on Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones. Another visible difference is that of logos on back. Besides these two differences both are quite identical.

Camera

Camera is the defining feature of OnePlus 5. As you may know already, company has promoted the camera of device since beginning till end. The first teaser image of device touted about its camera, and then company also went to the extent of releasing image sample to prove its point. Unsurprisingly, a great deal was said about its camera capabilities at launch event too. The dual-camera setup on back of device is a combination of 16MP RGB and 20MP telephoto sensor. While RGB sensor has got f/1.7 aperture, telephoto sensor has got the aperture of f/1.6. Selfie camera of device has got the highest aperture of all, which is f/2.0 aperture.

The combination of rear-facing dual sensors can be used to capture photographs with stunning ‘bokeh’ effects. There’s also a portrait mode in camera with 2x zoom capability, and if users want they can also zoom up to 8x on OnePlus 5. The camera can also capture 4K HD videos, and has got Electronic Image Stabilization for recording stable videos. Noise canceling microphones are also present, which help in ensuring high quality audio while recording videos.

Software

Besides camera another major perspective of device on which company is focusing is software. OnePlus 5 is loaded with company’s Oxygen OS based on latest Android 7.1.1 Nougat, and it has got some pretty nice tricks up its sleeve. For example, it has got a Reading Mode, which changes screen temperature according to environment and calibrates the display for a superior reading experience. You can also set your desired apps (i.e Kindle) to turn on this mode automatically.

Availability and Pricing

The device will be available from June 27 in US and Europe. It’ll come in two colors, namely Midnight black and Slate Gray. The US price is 479 USD, while Europe price has been set at 499 Euros. And though the company didn’t make it clear, these’re most likely the prices of 64GB version.

As far as India availability is concerned, we may hear about it on June 22nd, when it’ll be launched in Mumbai. Based on these US and European price we can expect that the device will cost around 30,000 – 35,000 INR in India. Probably we’ll come to know the Indian price at launch event after two days, and if that happens we’ll certainly let you know by updating this post, so bookmark it and don’t forget checking back two days later if you’re interested in this device.

Update: Indian launch of device has happened, and the prices have been revealed. 64GB version will cost Rs. 32,999, while 128GB version has been priced at Rs. 37,999.
