Lava International Limited is a multi-national Indian based company. Lava mostly produces various types of mobile handsets. The company was founded back in the year 2009. The company was formed mainly as a telecommunications venture. Its headquarters are based in Noida, India. Lava not just only has operations in India, but also in various other foreign countries as well. This includes Russia, Nepal, Mexico, Indonesia, the Middle East, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Sri Lanka. Lava also started its operations in Africa, in the year 2016. This was possible after Lava launched one of their smartphones in Egypt, earlier that year.
Based on the reports of 2015, the company earned a total revenue of 6700 Crore Indian Rupees. Lava also manufactures tablet computers, 3G data cards, laptops, and software as well. Lava is currently planning to increase the count of R&D and manufacturing plants in India. Currently, Lava already has an R&D plant in China, as well as India. The Chinese plant is used for product testing. While the Indian plant is used for product designs and development.
History Of Lava
Lava was co-founded by four members, in the year 2009. The names of the founders are – Vishal Sehgal, Shailendra Nath Rai, Hari Om Rai, and Sunil Bhalla. As per the reports of 2014, Lava’s Indian market share at that time was 8 percent. In the year 2015-16, Lava had a total turnover of $1.2 Billion. Also, it was ranked as the fifth most trusted brand in 2014. And as well as 75th most trusted brand among 1200 brands, during a survey done by The Brand Trust Report 2014. IDC also awarded Lava as the 4th largest smartphone manufacturer in India.
Lava also received an award in 2017, from the Government of Uttar Pradesh. This is because of the fact that, Lava hired almost 710 apprentices in 2016. Lava was the only company to hire so much apprentice from the state of Uttar Pradesh. It also helped Lava to maintain the guidelines of the Apprentice Act. 1961 as well.
Developments In The Mobile Space
It was in the year 2012 when Lava teamed up with Intel. The Lava X900 was the first smartphone launched in India, that had an Intel processor. With this, Lava also launched the brand name Xolo. Lava also launched a tablet in 2012, known as the E-Tab Z7H.
In 2014, the Lava Iris Pro 30 was launched. This was the first flagship phone of the company. This smartphone was researched and developed in China. Apart from creating this smartphone, the R&D facility in China also created the Fusion App for Android as well. Later that year, Lava launched the Iris X1. It was one of the very few smartphones in India, to run on the latest Google Android Operating System. The X1 ran on Android 4.4 KitKat. In the month of December, Lava launched the Iris Win 1 – which was a Windows Phone-based smartphone.
In the year 2016, Lava launched the Xolo X50, which ran on the Android Lollipop 5.1 Operating System. As of recent releases, Lava launched the 4G Connect M14. The M14 was touted as India’s first 4G enabled feature phone. As of 2018, Lava has about 900 distributors all over India, which are directly handled and also managed by the company as well.
