Sony reveals PlayStation VR sales numbers – almost a million sold

Andrew House, Sony

Sony has revealed the sales numbers of its PlayStation VR and it seems that the gaming giant is doing well for itself by having sold nearly a million units.

As of February 19, as many as 915,000 units of Sony PlayStation VR have been sold according to Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. Sony had set a goal of selling a million PlayStation VR by middle of April and it seems that the company is well on track to achieve that goal and possibly even surpass it.

“It’s the classic case in any organization — the guys who are on the front end in sales are getting very excited, very hyped up,” Mr. House said in an interview with the New York Times. “You have to temper that with other voices inside the company, myself among them, saying let’s just be a little bit careful.”

House said that people were lining up outside stores to get their hands onto a PlayStation VR in Japan. This should come as no surprise considering that from all the available VR headsets, PS VR is the cheapest of the bunch. As per the latest Steam hardware survey, little has changed in way of HTC Vive or Oculus popularity, being used by just 0.23 percent of all Steam users.

PlayStation VR has been made available in quite a few countries including India now and the sales for this VR platform are definitely going to soar over the next few months considering that it will be holidays in schools and colleges in many parts of the world and children will have ample of free time to play games on the gaming consoles.
