The MLB postseason will begin less than two months from now. The MLB 2022 regular season is winding down and we have a clear picture of who will be heading to the postseason and who will be preparing for the 2023 MLB regular season.
This is going to be one wild right down the stretch and baseball bettors are placing their bets for the future on the 2022 MLB World Series though. MLB stats go to show why some teams are contenders and why some teams are pretenders. Who are the current betting favorites to win the 2022 MLB World Series?
Los Angeles Dodgers
The Los Angeles Dodgers to no surprise are the favorites to win the 2022 MLB World Series. Los Angeles is the best team in all of baseball right now and they are a well-oiled machine though. The Dodgers have basically an all-star team and it may be hard to stop them in the playoffs, but the postseason is a different kind of game altogether.
Los Angeles just won the World Series two years ago against the Tampa Bay Rays in six games and lost to the Atlanta Braves last season in six games. The Dodgers are managed by Dave Roberts. Los Angeles has one of the best starting rotations in all of baseball despite Walker Buehler recently undergoing Tommy John Surgery.
Clayton Kershaw, Julio Urias, and Tony Gonsolin will be the starters most likely in the postseason. Craig Kimbrel will come out of the bullpen, but there are many questions about the bullpen for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Trea Turner, Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, and Justin Turner are their primary hitters in the lineup.
Houston Astros
The Houston Astros have the second-best chance to win the 2022 MLB World Series. Houston has won the American League Title the last three of five years, but Houston has only won one World Series in that span against the Los Angeles Dodgers in seven games back in 2017. The Astros lost in 2019 against the Washington Nationals in seven games and the Atlanta Braves in six games last season.
Houston’s manager is Dusty Baker and they continue to plug away and win baseball games no matter who is in their lineup. Alex Bregman, Jose Altuve, Kyle Tucker, and Yordan Alvarez are some of their key players in the lineup.
Justin Verlander is the leader in the clubhouse. He is going to be the Game 1 starter for the Houston Astros when the postseason rolls around. Framber Valdez and Jose Urqidy will most likely be the other starters in the rotation in the MLB postseason. Hector Neris is the Astros closer which could be a major concern for them down the stretch.
New York Yankees
The New York Yankees have the third-best opportunity to win the 2022 MLB World Series. New York was the best team in baseball for the first half of the regular season, but they really cooled off in the second half of the regular season. The Yankees have a comfortable lead in the American League East. They are currently the number two seed in the American League.
Their manager is Aaron Boone. They have the most likely American League MVP in outfielder Aaron Judge. Some of the other key players in their lineup down the stretch will be Giancarlo Stanton, Anthony Rizzo, and Gleyber Torres.
One of their biggest questions will be who will be the top starters in the playoffs. Gerrit Cole will most likely be the Game 1 starter for them, but is Nestor Cortez and Frankie Montas the second and third starters or will they add Jameson Taillon to the starting rotation as well? The bigger issue might be the closer and they aren’t using Aroldis Chapman, but Scott Efross might be the guy.
New York Mets
The New York Mets are the final team on our list to win the 2022 MLB World Series. Their manager is Buck Showalter. New York is trying to hold off the Atlanta Braves in the National League East. The Mets key players are Jacob deGrom, Max Scherzer, Pete Alonso, and Francisco Lindor.
