Fans of Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) who just want to relax and enjoy the quiet life seem to like the Island Sanctuary feature a lot. A big part of the Island Sanctuary experience is raising animals to use as crafting materials. Square Enix will add more animals to find over time.
Certain of these animals are notoriously hard to find and only show up when certain things happen. One animal that is hard to find is the Glyptodon. Here’s where on your Island Sanctuary you could indeed locate a Glyptodon.
In FFXIV, Island Sanctuary is a place to catch and raise animals of all sizes and types. You can catch the Glyptodon in the Island Sanctuary. It is a unique animal. But in FFXIV, you have to follow certain rules to catch a Glyptodon.
If you need a break from the usual Endwalker shenanigans, the new Island Sanctuary feature added in patch 6.2 of Final Fantasy XIV might do the trick. Players receive a private area where they’re able to gather resources, make tools, build workshops, grow crops, and do other things to build their own trading empire.

How To Gain Access To Island Sanctuary:

Where To Look For A Glyptodon:
The Glyptodon lives on the northeast coast of your island. It is a sneaky, armored animal that likes to stay out of sight. If a player wants to tame it, they don’t need to have unlocked flying on their Island Sanctuary first.
Because the Glyptodon is a rare spawn, you can only find it in the wild between 12 AM and 3 AM Eorzean Time. To find the red beast, get on your horse and go to the north-eastern cliffs that face the ocean around the X: 31, Y: 11 coordinates in the early morning.
You don’t have to worry about the weather because the Glyptodon will appear even if it is raining, hailing, sleeting, or snowing.
This is a pretty small window to capture this animal, and it’s not always easy to get there in time. To do this, players use websites outside of the game that track the Island Sanctuary’s weather and let them know when the animal will show up.
When you collect from the Glyptodon in the pasture, it will give you Claws and, very rarely, a Carapace. If you feed it once a day with Premium Island Green-feed, it will be much more likely to give you a Carapace. These things can be used in the workshop to make other things.
Which Tool Did You Need To Capture A Glyptodon?
In the Island Sanctuary, creatures are labelled as small, medium, or large. Depending on how big they are, you’ll need a different kind of hold to catch them. The Glyptodon is a medium-sized animal, so to add it to your pasture, you’ll need a Makeshift Restraint. To make a Makeshift Restraint, you’ll need the following.
- 3 Island Hemp
- 1 Island Copper Ore
Hemp Harvesting:
You need a scythe in your inventory to harvest Island Hemp. To get the scythe, you’ll need to get your Island to Level 6. Island Hemp can be found all over your island, but one of the best places to pick it is on the east side, near the Coral Sands.
How To Get Copper Ore:
You can mine Island Copper Ore with an Islekeep’s Stone Hammer, which you get during the Island Sanctuary tutorial. Large Island Copper Ore deposits could be found close To peak Spot in the southeast corner and at the north edge of the map.
How To Get A Glyptodon:
Get close to the Glyptodon and try to catch it with the Makeshift Restraint. It might take a few tries, but once you’re successful, your new catch will go straight to your Island Sanctuary & join your other catches in the pasture. The Glyptodon will leave behind Sanctuary Claw droppings each day, so make sure they are happy and well-fed in order to collect them every day.
If Your Animals Aren’t Appearing, Try This Solution:
Some rare animals wouldn’t spawn if they needed both weather and time, however the Island Sanctuary discord community had already discovered a fix that works for some. Try the repair below if your animals don’t show up.
To bring back a rare species that needs both time and weather, you should.
- No one else can be on your island.
- Get off your island before the weather gets worse (Midnight, 8 am, 4 pm Eorzean time)
- Wait 5 Eorzen minutes after the time the rare monster is supposed to spawn.
- Load your island back and look around for signs that your monster appeared.

How To Get To Your Island Sanctuary:
Once you’ve unlocked it, you can talk to Baldin at Moraby Drydocks in Lower La Nosecea at X:24.9, Y:34.8 to go to your island sanctuary at any time. You can leave your island whenever you want by using Return, Teleport, or the boat at X:9.2, Y:28.3.
How To Go To The Islands Of Other Players:
Up to 16 players can explore any one island at the same time, & players could indeed attend the islands of friends, free company members, & party members, but only if the person in question has allowed access and is on the island.
NOTE:
If a player is in the island sanctuary zone and does not do anything for more than 30 minutes, they will be relocated to Lower La Nosecea.
To go to another person’s island, you should talk to Baldin at X:24.9, Y:34.8 in Lower La Nosecea. When you go to someone else’s island, you can’t craft or gather.
After you finish the primary scenario quest “The Ultimate Weapon,” you can go to other players’ islands. It doesn’t matter if you haven’t opened your own island yet.
How To Get Other People To Come To Your island:
Before you can let people into your Cozy Cabin, you have to finish the first tasks from Felicitous Furball and build it.
Once you’ve completed that, you could indeed push the Settings icon in your Islekeep’s Index menu to select the individuals you want to let on your island: friends, unrestricted company members, and party members.
