Xiaomi yesterday launched its highly anticipated Redmi Note 5 and Note 5 Pro smartphones in India. But these were not the only devices launched by the company in New Delhi – the event also became the venue for the launch of Mi Smart LED TV 4, which is company’s first TV offering in Indian market. It’s a 55-inch Smart TV that marks the beginning of a new journey for Xiaomi in India: the journey of disrupting Indian TV market.

To get started, there’s a lot of good and unique stuff in this stylish TV. First of all let me tell you about its looks. As I said above, it’s a large 55-inch Smart TV. But it’s also “World’s thinnest Smart TV” in company’s own words, with the thickness of 4.9mm at its thinnest point. It’s also a frameless TV, which means that you’ll see nothing more except for the screen in front of you (in smartphones they call it bezel-less, in TVs, it’s called frameless). Now let’s talk a bit about the specifications and features of this TV. Being a smart TV it comes with almost everything that you’ll find in your smartphones: a 64-bit quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, 8GB storage and a 4K resolution display. It also has modern connectivity features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 2 USB ports, 3 HDMI ports and 1 ethernet port. The eleven button remote TV connects to it via Bluetooth, so you don’t need to point it towards the big screen in order to make it work. The same remote can also control your Set Top Box besides Mi LED TV.
The TV is also equipped with a feature called Patchwall, which is an artificial intelligence and machine learning based feature that learns from your viewing habits and preferences to suggest more content that you should watch.
Software and Content
When it comes to software, Mi Smart LED TV 4 is running Android TV operating system. The company has partnered with SonyLiv, Voot, Hungama Play and many other major Video-On-Demand content providers to provide its customers more than 500,000 hours of content, 80% of which will be free of cost.
Mi Smart LED TV 4 Price and Availability
Now let’s talk about the price of it. For a TV priced at 39,999 INR, it offers much more than any other Smart TV out on the market. The company’s strategy, according to its India MD Mr. Manu Jain, is not to earn from the TV itself but from the content that users will stream on it in the long run. Therefore, the TV is being sold at such an aggressive price point. The company has successfully deployed this strategy in smartphones and dethroned Samsung from the leadership of Indian smartphone market.
Now it’s doing the same with TV, by selling the hardware on highly aggressive prices from online retail channels.
