with a growth of 831%, Realme shakes the competition

The Chinese brand Realme continues to be talked about. Created in 2018, it is already one of the major players in the smartphone market. Thanks to its affordable devices, but with interesting technical data sheets, it is a resounding success in the world, in particular in emerging countries.

According to data published by Strategy Analytics, Realme’s growth has been faster than that of Apple, Nokia, Samsung, Xiaomi or even Huawei when they started out in the mobile market.

“Realme is the fastest brand to ship a total of 100 million smartphones worldwide. It only took Realme 37 months to go from zero to 100 million smartphone shipments. It’s faster than Apple, Samsung, Nokia, Huawei, Xiaomi or any other big brand of smartphones of the last quarter century ”, says Neil Mawston, Executive Director of Strategy Analytic.

Linda Sui, Senior Manager, adds that only 16 brands have shipped over 100 million units in the past 27 years. As a result, Realme is now part of the “elite”.

Realme debuted with affordable 4G smartphones. But today, the Chinese brand also offers 5G models.

And thanks to the value for money of its 5G devices, Realme is already shaking the competition. In a recent post, the Counterpoint company says that in the third quarter of 2021, Realme posted the fastest growth in 5G smartphone shipments.

As the market grew 121% year-on-year, Realme’s 5G smartphone shipments grew 831%! Thanks to this growth, Realme was world number 6, for two consecutive quarters, in the 5G smartphone market.

Realme enters the high-end market

As mentioned above, Realme has made a name for itself thanks to its affordable smartphones, focusing on value for money. But now, the Chinese brand is eyeing the premium segment, dominated by brands like Apple or Samsung.

Realme has already teased its Realme GT2 Pro, its first true high-end smartphone, which will be one of the best smartphones of 2022. The device has not yet been formalized. Nevertheless, we know that this one will use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, which will ensure an excellent level of performance.

And to stand out from the crowd, Realme even allows itself to teach its competitors a lesson in ecology. Indeed, at the end of 2021, the brand announced that the Realme GT 2 Pro will be the first smartphone whose back is made of biopolymer, an “organic” material that avoids the use of plastic or glass.

1 million Realme GT 2 Pro produced would avoid using the equivalent of 3.5 million plastic bottles. In fact, in addition to using a biopolymer for the back of this device, Realme has also reduced the amount of plastic used for packaging: it goes from 21.7% to 0.3%.

But for the moment, we do not know all the characteristics of this new smartphone.
