what will be the price in Europe?

Nothing, the brand launched by Carl Pei, the co-founder of OnePlus, needs no introduction. After launching its ear(1) wireless headphones in 2021, it is now preparing the presentation of its first smartphone, the Nothing Phone(1).

This presentation will take place on July 12. But Carl Pei being a big fan of teasing, a lot of information about the product has already been revealed. For example, Nothing has already posted a photo of its smartphone, showing the transparent back.

Through a YouTube channel, Nothing also unveiled a unique feature of the Phone (1): the presence of hundreds of LEDs on the back, which can transmit information to the user when the smartphone is placed on the screen.

And that’s not all, since Carl Pei also confirmed the mid-range positioning of Nothing’s first smartphone. The product will use a modified version of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 778G+ chip. And if Pei did not reveal the price, everything suggests that this mid-range smartphone should cost around 500 euros.

Nothing Phone (1): the leaked price on the web

In an article published this week, the 91mobiles site relays a source on Twitter who indicates that he has discovered the European prices of the Nothing Phone (1), as well as the existence of three versions.

The version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage would cost 469.99 euros, the version with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage would cost 499.99 euros, while the version with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage would cost 549.99 euros. OnePlus would also offer “bundles” including the smartphone as well as the Nothing ear headphones(1). A pack with a Phone(1) 8+128 and wireless headphones would be sold at 566 euros.

Of course, for the moment, this information is still to be considered with caution. However, given that Carl Pei has already confirmed the mid-range positioning of the Nothing Phone (1), the prices should at least be quite close to those announced by this leak.

The mid-range: an assumed positioning

With its Snapdragon 778G+ chip, the Nothing Phone (1) will therefore not be able to compete with the performance of premium models such as the Galaxy S22, the Xiaomi 12 or the OnePlus 10 Pro. And this positioning is entirely assumed by the boss of Nothing.

In an interview with Input Mag, Carl Pei explained that today smartphones have reached a sufficient level of performance to accomplish daily tasks. He would also have pointed to the “diminishing returns” of premium chips.

The choice of the Snapdragon 778G+ is also justified by its low energy consumption. In terms of energy saving and overheating, this component would be more interesting than the Snapdragon 8 gen 1, Snapdragon 8+ gen 1 or Snapdragon 7 gen 1. And of course, the use of this chip also reduces the costs.

In any case, for the moment, everything suggests that this device will be a hit. A few days ago, Pei tweeted that more than 100,000 people have already been put on the waiting list to pre-order the Phone (1). And the Nothing OS application launcher, which provides an overview of smartphone software, has already been downloaded more than 350,000 times.

And the launch of this smartphone is just the beginning, because Nothing’s long-term goal is to offer an entire ecosystem of products.
