As you probably know, Netflix has hosted the second season of The Witcher series since December, largely inspired by the video game series of the same name, itself taken from an eponymous literary series by Andrzej Sapkowski. A second season overall more mastered, both visually and from a strict narrative point of view, even if some remain hungry (wolf). And of course, if the video game has attracted many viewers on Netflix, the series now sends these same viewers (and many others) … to video games.
The Witcher on Netflix is (obviously) relaunching video games
Indeed, for video game enthusiasts, The Witcher saga has a total of three episodes, the latest being a certain Wild Hunt, launched in 2015, an eternity for the video game market. A game signed CD Projekt RED, also at the controls of a certain Cyberpunk 2077, and both will also receive the precious “next-gen patch” in the course of this year 2022 which is just starting.
The second season of The Witcher on Netflix thus evokes some of the facts that occurred in the video game launched 6 years ago. Obviously, it did not take more to revive the interest of the latter, and many are now trying to (re) get their hands on The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, on PS4, Xbox, PC or even Nintendo Switch.
On Steam, Wild Hunt’s player base has hovered around 30,000 on average since the start of the year, but the game reached no less than 63,000 players on December 23. Two years ago, the Netflix series blew up the counters, with more than 103,000 players on Steam, the absolute record for the game. On Xbox, in France, the game rose to fourth best-selling position on the Christmas week. Thanks Netflix!
This is not new, adapted video game series very often have the habit of relaunching (in a more or less palpable way) the interest (or the value) of the game in question. This was the case for Castlevania in particular (still at Netflix), soon to Sonic (with the Sonic Prime series), while Paramount + will soon broadcast the Halo series. Find at this address the video games that will soon be adapted into films or series on Netflix, HBO, Disney + …
Small gaming resolution for 2022… FINALLY come to the end of this Resident Evil Code Veronica, more than 20 years after its release 😊

Moreover, it is interesting to note that it is not necessarily necessary for the adaptation to be successful to make people want to relaunch the game from which a film or series is inspired. The proof recently with the abominable Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, which despite everything made you want to (re) play different video games, especially the first episodes, during the holidays …
As for CD Projekt RED, we obviously hope that this will also be the case during the broadcast of Edgerunners, an animated series based on Cyberpunk 2077, expected for 2022. And as long as the Polish studio has the good idea to deploy the patch next-gen at the same time as the Netflix series, you know the rest …
