The War of the Rohirrim: a new movie The Lord of the Rings made official by the Warner

Twenty years after the trilogy The Lord of the Rings by Peter Jackson, New Line Cinema teams up with Warner Bros. Animation and signs the release of an original animated feature film, shaped by Tolkien’s universe. It is The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, which has not yet found its release date.

As amazing as it sounds, New Line Cinema and the Warner Bros. Animation have just announced the start of production from a new movie The Lord of the Rings. It will be an animated feature film, titled The War of the Rohirrim. This new movie is set to debut after the Amazon Prime series releases on JRR Tolkien’s Tale.

Veteran animation filmmaker Kenji Kamiyama, who previously handled Blade Runner: Black Lotus and of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, which will take fans back to the legendary battle that shaped Middle-earth. And that will set the stage for the epic events we all saw in the film’s original trilogy.

So, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim in VO will explore and develop the untold story of Helm’s Deep Fortress, seen in The Two Towers. This animated feature film will immerse us in the life and bloody times of Helm Hammerhand, the king of Rohan at the time.

The film is produced by Joseph Chou (Blade Runner: Black Lotus), with Jeffrey Addiss et Will Matthews (The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance) writing the script. Philippa Boyens, of the writing team behind the trilogies The Lord of the Rings, is a consultant.

In a press release, Warner explains that it wishes to deliver « a new vision » from the story of Helm’s Deep, which ” will invite the global audience to experience the rich and complex saga of Middle-earth in an exciting new way. The film is due in theaters, but it does not yet have a release date.
