At the end of season 2 of The Mandalorian, we were pleased to learn that a series focused on Boba Fett would soon land on Disney +. A program that will recount the adventures of the bounty hunter after having driven Bib Fortuna from the throne once occupied by Jabba the Hutt. Release date, plot, casting, we tell you everything.
Boba Fett made his comeback in season 2 of The Mandalorian. Which had been met with great enthusiasm by fans, with the bounty hunter being a much-loved character. And endowed with a strong narrative potential that had not yet been fully exploited in the canon of Star Wars. To remedy this, Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Robert Rodriguez had the bright idea of producing a series centered on Boba Fett when a film had already been considered.
Announced at the end of season 2 of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett will soon debut on Disney +. The opportunity to come back in detail on this future program which remains very mysterious for the moment.
Boba Fett in the Star Wars saga
Jango Fett is none other than the model that allowed the Kaminoans to create an army of clones. In return, he demands to recover an unmodified clone in order to make him his son: Boba Fett. But during the Battle of Geonosis, Jango loses his life, coldly beheaded by Mace Windu. After recovering his father’s armor, Boba then becomes a major bounty hunter.
In The Empire Strikes Back, he’s the one who tracks Han Solo on behalf of Vader, anxious to lure Luke into his net. A mission crowned with success so much that the Sith Lord agrees to leave him the frozen body of Han Solo so that he can deliver it to Jabba. And receive a hearty reward. But the formidable antagonist has a less happy outcome in Return of the Jedi. While Boba Fett manages to incapacitate Luke, Han Solo unintentionally activates his jetpack. Which propels him into the bowels of the terrible Sarlacc.
He was thought to have died in excruciating pain at the time. However, the character finally reappeared in season 2 of The Mandalorian. Now teaming up with a certain Fennec Shand, he makes a deal with Din Djarin. In exchange for his armor (which Mando collected after defeating the dragon Krayt), he promises to protect Grogu who is threatened by Moff Gideon’s minions. In the post-credits scene, he neutralizes Bib Fortuna and sits on the throne of former underworld leader Jabba. Enough to set the scene for the upcoming spin-off.
The Book of Boba Fett : quelle intrigue ?
Contrary to popular belief, The Book of Boba Fett will be a separate series from The Mandalorian. But what will she talk about? No official synopsis has yet been released. In view of the scene unveiled at the end of the credits of season 2, we should discover how Boba and his sidekick Fennec will dispose of the crime empire once owned by Jabba the Hutt then to Bib Fortuna. It remains to be seen what their motivations will be. Continue on the path of crime dear to Jabba or bring some order to Tatooine and the galaxy?
If the series will have similarities with The Mandalorian, it will however be more oriented thriller than western according to Ming-Na Wen, the interpreter of Fennec Shand. We will therefore find an iconic duo that will be very different from Grogu and Din Djarin. And for good reason, Boba and Fennec will be able to interact verbally. Something that Mando and his little protégé couldn’t do.
Moreover, the two characters are not on an equal footing, Boba having saved Fennec’s life by using cybernetics. She thus owes a substantial debt to the mercenary. Which could cause tensions in their relationship in the future. Or else cement their ties even more. The field of possibilities is wide.
In addition, there should be several temporalities in The Book of Boba. That in force in The Mandalorian on the one hand (five years after episode VI). And the one just after the events of Return of the Jedi. Asked by Rotten Tomatoes, Boba interpreter Temuera Morrison said the mercenary’s tumultuous past would be addressed in the series. The opportunity to learn in particular how he survived the horrific Sarlacc before wandering in the galaxy, orphan of his armor.
The Book of Boba Fett : quel casting ?
Besides Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen, The Book of Boba Fett should integrate several characters from The Mandalorian. This is not surprising since the program is a spin-off of the successful series. According to the latest indiscretions, Pedro Pascal alias Mando should also make some appearances. In addition, sniper Mayfeld (Bill Burr) is also reportedly scheduled for the cast. In The Mandalorian, he redeems himself a good behavior with Cara Dune who gives him his freedom.
Moreover, the rumors also evoke the return of Greef Karga, played by Carl Weather. Which is none other than the boss of the bounty hunter guild in The Mandalorian. It will obviously also count on Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant), the sheriff of Mos Pelgos helped by Mando. Besides the two main characters, we still have no official confirmation of the presence of the protagonists mentioned above.
The Book of Boba Fett: when to release?
The series is slated for December 2021 on Disney +. It remains to be seen whether it will last over several seasons. Note that the announced release window seems plausible, Temuera Morrison having confirmed that the shooting was now completed. Good news !
