Early on in Sons of the Forest, you’ll learn how important it is to cook food for your character to eat. You really aren’t interested in going hungry while you’re out exploring the unknown.

Where The Fish Trap Is:
When you start the game for the first time, you’ll see that there are a lot of boxes around the crash site. You must open each one to get the emergency pack. This pack comes with a Guide Book, which has a lot of crafting recipes in it. Once you’ve gotten the book, you can choose it from your inventory. Then, hold down the ‘X’ key to get to the second mode.

Now that you have the book in your left hand, you can click on “Traps” to see all of the traps you could indeed make. You can also choose “Fish Trap” from this page. You will need a total of 25 sticks to make it. Yes, this seems like a lot, but you can’t do anything else.
Sticks are pretty easy to find in Sons of the Forest, especially compared to things like 3D Printers. There are sticks everywhere in the forest. But if you can’t find many on the ground, you could indeed cut down small trees with the Axe in your inventory. You’ll have enough sticks to construct the Fish Trap with these.
How to Make an Animal Trap: To start making Sons of the Forest Animal Traps, you’ll need sticks—lots and lots of sticks. Sticks are pretty much everywhere on the ground. But you could also begin to cut down small trees and bushes. Just press the “I” key to open your inventory, then put on the axe. After that, start wailing away as well as pick up the things that have fallen.
- Small Animal Trap – 14x sticks,placed on flat ground.
- Fish Trap – 25x sticks, placed in bodies of water or rivers.

The easiest thing to make is roasted meat, which you can do by putting strips of meat on any campfire, whether you built it yourself as part of your base or you found it while exploring.
Because making a simple campfire is easy, you are likely to cook food even if you are stuck somewhere with few or no resources.
How To Make Fire:
You can make a campfire with as little as 2 sticks and some leaves, but if you plan to stay in one place for a while, you can build fancier fires. To build something more complicated, you’ll need more materials, like rocks, but for now, you may follow these directions to build something simple.
- Gather at least two sticks and two leaves
- Equip your sticks
- Look at a suitable spot on the ground
- Left-click to break a couple of sticks into a pile on the ground
- Hold E to use your lighter and some lives to get the fire going
Once your fire is going, you can look at it while holding E to see a list of things you can put on it. You can add more leaf to keep the flames going or lay down any pieces of meat you want to cook them.

How To Prepare Meat:
- Holding E while looking at a burning fire will bring up the fire menu.
- Choose Your Cuts of Meat
- To close this same fire menu, press G.
- Wait until the meat changes color.
- To pick up cooked meat, tap E on it. If you press E on cooked meat, you can eat it right away.
