Samsung has been selling folding smartphones since 2019. But it looks like it’s this year that sales have finally taken off.
Encouraged by customer feedback in 2020, in 2021, Samsung has gone the extra mile by producing more foldable display smartphones. In addition, the manufacturer has lowered its prices and made many improvements.
In particular, with the Galaxy Z Flip 3, Samsung seems to have found the right formula. And in addition, it seems that the manufacturer plans to produce even more folding smartphones in 2022.
This is in any case what is suggested by an article from Sammobile, which relays a publication of the Korean media The Elec. According to this article, the Korean giant would like to produce at least 10 million Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 in the third and last quarters of 2022. This would be a significant increase since this year, the target of manufacturer would be the 7 million units.

10 million Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4?
10 million units is a lot. And that would signal that sales of folding smartphones in 2021 were good enough for the manufacturer to increase production for the following year. Still, even with those 10 million units, Samsung’s folding smartphones still wouldn’t overtake the flagship: the Galaxy S series.
Indeed, according to the same Sammobile article, Samsung plans to produce 38 million Galaxy S22 (and its variants) in 2022. And for the mid-range smartphone market, Samsung would target the 78 million Galaxy A smartphones.
Competitors are more and more numerous
In any case, Samsung is going to move up a gear even further as its competitors in the folding smartphone market are more and more numerous. In addition to Huawei and Motorola, Xiaomi is also present in this market.
The Chinese manufacturer launched its first folding smartphone, the Mi Mix Fold, in March. And currently, this one would already be working on a folding clamshell smartphone like the Galaxy Z Flip 3.
Rumors are already circulating about a folding smartphone, the Pixel Fold, that Google could launch. And for its part, Oppo could also launch its first folding smartphone in December.
