- Moto X4 is company’s latest smartphone with dual-lens camera (first was Moto G5S Plus)
- It’s also packed with a brilliant display and performance hardware
- We try to evaluate how great it is based on its price.
While world may be waiting for iPhone 8, Google Pixel 2 and other shiny pieces of technology, there’re also people who can’t afford those premium devices. And those people are the majority actually.
Now, even among them there’re two categories:- first of budget smartphone buyers, and another of mid-range smartphone buyers. Budget smartphone buyers most of the time do not expect their devices to look, work and feel like the premium ones because they already know what they’ve paid.
However, the mid-range buyer wants to get a phone that’s good in looks and functionality both. Moto X4, which was launched by the company just a few days ago, is a phone which will appeal to that particular crowd of smartphone buyers.
Let’s talk about the specs first. For the price of €399 ($474) it’s a device packed with 5.2-inch Full-HD display, 12mp dual-lens primary camera, Snapdragon 630 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB internal memory and 3,000 mAh battery.
As you can see, the specs are considerably great when compared against their price. But as always, the devil is in the details and we should explore this device further to evaluate how good or bad it is.
Moto X4 Design & Display
So the first detail that I’d like to discuss in detail is the design of this phone. It’s a device with shiny back and sides which looks just gorgeous, though that design choice is also a fingerprint magnet.
The device is slightly curved from the back and sides, which helps in providing grip over it. Overall it’s a design that requires some maintenance, but a design that looks great in the hand.
The 5.2-inch Full-HD display of Moto X4 is neither too big nor too small. It’s large enough for most tasks, yet leaves the phone size reasonable enough to handle with a hand. The pixel density of 424 ppi is great for all the tasks that you may want to do with it, and with Gorilla Glass protection it’s also likely to remain crisp and clear for a long time.
Moto X4 Performance
With Snapdragon 630 and 3GB of RAM under the hood Moto X4 handles almost every day to day task very smoothly no matter how much multitasking we do. Depending on the region in which you live the device is also available with 4GB of RAM, but even with 3GB you’ll find the device perfectly capable of doing whatever you want it to do.
Moto X4 Camera
Now coming to the most important part of Moto X4. With a dual-camera setup on its back this is 2nd smartphone with such a setup from Motorola (first was G5S Plus launched a few days ago).
The first of two camera lenses is a 12mp telephoto lens, while another one is an 8mp wide angle lens. Like most other devices with similar camera setups Moto X4 can also create a depth of field effect around your photos to highlight the subject and blur out the background. And just like Galaxy Note 8, it also allows you to control the intensity of blurred background before saving the final shot.
Finally, there’s a 16mp selfie shooter too, which is too good of a shooter for such a purpose in this mid-range phone. It has also got its own amazing tricks. For example, it can capture a Panoramic selfie for you which looks like a wide-angle portrait shot. That’s some serious goodness for a selfie camera.
Moto X4 Other Features
Other great features of device include a front-facing fingerprint sensor, and Amazon Alexa, the voice assistant app from Amazon.
Like HTC U11, you can speak to Alexa without launching its app first, and receive answers to your asked questions. However, Alexa can’t control your smartphone for you, because Google Assistant is in charge of those things.
Conclusion
Overall a solid package from Motorola in the mid-range segment. Moto X4 will come in Sterling Blue and Super Black color options. Do let us know your thoughts about it in the comments section below.
