Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be “darker” than its predecessors

The Empire Strikes Back Way

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was announced at the September PlayStation Showcase dedicated to the future of the PS5. But apart from a trailer shot directly with the game’s engine, we don’t know more about the title slated for 2023. Bill Roseman, vice president and creative director at Marvel Games, announces that Insomniac’s game will be darker than what the license has accustomed us to so far.

At a podcast This Week in Marvel, Roseman quickly returned to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. He explained that it was indeed a sequel, in which we would see several enemies face off against Peter Parker and Miles Morales.

There are several enemies. I can say the story is a direct sequel and picks up right after Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. I don’t want to reveal too much, but this is the next big chapter. There are a lot of narrative threads, a lot of characters that were in the first 2 games and that you will find there.

So yeah, there’s Miles, there’s Peter, there’s Venom, there’s a mysterious voice. It’s got everything you love, and more.

Roseman goes further and states that the table will darken. Indeed, it even goes as far as Compare the progression to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to that of The Empire Strikes Back for the Star Wars universe.

And I’ll add that, if the first Spider-Man game was Star Wars, Spider-Man 2 is kind of our Empire Strikes Back. It gets a little darker.

Well he said a little. It’s still Marvel, not DC Comics.
