In 2022, Google’s ecosystem will shift into high gear

Google had planned a physical presence at CES in Las Vegas. However, due to the health situation, the company finally decided not to go. But the good news is that virtually this one still makes announcements. And among these announcements, there is that of better integration between the company’s products and services, in 2022.

“Over the years, we’ve evolved Android to support more devices in your life, such as watches, tablets, TVs, and even cars. And beyond Android, our work at Google includes laptops, headphones and speakers, smart home devices and more ”, recalls Erik Kay, vice president of cross-device experiences. Also, the goal of the firm is now that the different devices can work better together.

Thus, Google will improve the Fast Pair functionality of Android, for Bluetooth devices. This already allows instant pairing, for example between a smartphone and wireless headphones.

In a few weeks, Fast Pair will also make it easier to connect wireless headphones to Chromebook computers. On the other hand, later this year, you can easily set up a new Chromebook using your Android smartphone to quickly access info like your Google account and WiFi passwords.

Google will also facilitate the connection between Bluetooth headphones and keys or televisions under Google TV and Android TV.

“And with built-in support for Matter on Android, you’ll be able to use Fast Pair to quickly connect new Matter-enabled smart home devices to your network, Google Home, and other related apps, all with just a few clicks.”, also announces Erik Kay. As a reminder, Matter is a technology, adopted by some brands, which allows better interoperability between connected devices.

If you own a Chromebook, you’ll be in for a treat

In its effort to improve integration between its products and services, Google has focused on Chromebooks. If Chromebooks have been around for a long time, these devices are experiencing a sharp increase in demand during the health crisis.

And besides, to make these machines even more interesting, Google will launch some practical functions. For example, if you have a smartwatch running Wear OS, you can easily unlock your Chromebook with this watch.

You will also be able to access information more easily on your smartphone from these computers. Currently, on a Chromebook, you can already see and respond to message notifications, turn on do not disturb mode, or open recent tabs.

And soon, it will also be possible to open the messaging applications of your Android smartphone on a Chromebook, and you will also be able to access the photo gallery, without touching the mobile.

Google, however, has not forgotten Windows users since the firm is also announcing Fast Pair integration with Windows machines, in order to facilitate Bluetooth connections.

New for multimedia content

Google also wants your Bluetooth headphones to be able to give you a better experience in your home. « […] if you wear headphones to watch a movie on your android tablet and receive a phone call, the movie will pause and the headphone sound will automatically switch to your android phone, then return to movie when you are done ”, says the head of cross-device experiences at Google.

On the other hand, it will be easier to listen to your podcasts and playlists on connected devices at home. Indeed, Google will integrate its Chromecast technology on devices from more brands, starting with Bose speakers.
