if you want good battery life, don’t use this feature

This September, in addition to launching the iPhone 14 series, Apple also rolled out the newest version of its operating system: iOS 16. So even if you don’t buy an iPhone 14, you will still have entitled to some interesting new features on the operating system.

The Apple keyboard finally gets haptic feedback

And among these new features of iOS 16, there is haptic feedback on the keyboard. In essence, in the settings of the iPhone, Apple offers a new option that allows you to activate or deactivate this function which emits slight vibrations when you press the keys on the keyboard (in addition to the click sound).

Haptic feedback was already available on the iPhone, but through third-party keyboards. On iOS 16, you will be able to take advantage of this feature, while continuing to use Apple’s official keyboard.

But be aware that if you decide to use haptic feedback on the keyboard, it will have an impact on battery life. This is what Apple indicates in a support page published on its site.

“Enabling keyboard haptics may affect your iPhone’s battery life”, says the Cupertino company. Unfortunately, Apple does not give more details on the impact of this feature on autonomy. However, this impact is significant enough that Apple mentions it in a help page.

How to enable or disable keyboard haptic feedback on iOS 16?

In any case, know that you are not obliged to use the haptic feedbacks of the keyboard on iOS 16, if you estimate that this functionality has too much impact on the autonomy of your iPhone.

To enable or disable the feature, you must:

  • Go to Settings
  • Then, in the “Sounds and Vibrations” section
  • Select “Return Keyboard”
  • And activate or deactivate the “Vibration” option
