But sometimes you will be in a situation where you need to view the video which is a private one and you don’t have the access to watch it. But still, there are ways to do it. Here in this post, we will discuss the different ways that are used to view private videos on YouTube.
Note: In order to view the private video at least you should have the link to it. Without the link, it will be a little difficult to search for the video and watch it. Because the private videos will never show up in the search results.
Why YouTube is not letting us watch private videos?
YouTube is the one that provides the users with the control to set the video private. If the uploader loves to use YouTube as the platform but not comfortable in sharing the videos with the outside world.
Then he can use the privacy settings to lock his video and give away only limited access to the chosen people. The uploader can provide access using the Gmail ID of the users.
If the user needs to see the video then his Gmail ID must be granted access to the private video. Also, he should be logged in to the Gmail account to watch the private video to which he has access.
There are two ways to watch a private video.
- Watch private videos with permission.
- Watch private videos without permission.
Watching private videos with permission
This is the only better way to watch a private video. For whatever reason, the uploader might not have felt comfortable in making the video public.
So it is wise to get the permission of the uploader before trying to watch the private video. In order to let you watch a private video, the uploader should have given your email access. Only then you can access the video.
Even if you are not granted permission initially you can request the uploader to give access to your email ID. So that you can watch the private video.
Watching private videos without permissions
I highly recommend you not to do this because the uploader might have his own reason to make the video private. Violating that means to hurt them / might even cause copyright breach issues.
Only read below if you are doing this for only educational purposes. I will tell you about two methods that are mostly used to view private videos if you have their link.
Before you decide that you don’t have access to the video, make sure that you have logged in to your email address. Sometimes people view the video without logging in and think that they don’t have access so make sure that you have double-checked it.
Modifying the URL:
This method is an old one and it might work or it might not work also. So try once and check for yourself.
- Assuming you have the video link, paste the video link in the browser URL bar.
- Before hitting enter delete the part that comes after the question mark.
- Now hit the enter key to load the video.
- Because of a bug, the video will be available to view now. But this might not work nowadays.
Using the Video Cache View:
This method works only if you have already watched the video on your computer. If you have watched on the computer then the video buffer will be stored as a cache in the computer. You can use the video cache viewer to view the video completely.
- The video you watched already will be stored in the Mpeg-Dash format somewhere on the computer.
- Use the Video cache view utility to view the video from the cache reserves.
- You can also download the video from the cache.
