How Arcane totally changed the meta of LoL

League of Legends hit series Arcane has not only taken over Netflix, it has also completely changed the meta of the game.

Arcane has been a smash hit for Riot Games, and the Netflix series (expected to be the first in a long series) has brought many new fans to the League of Legends universe.

The series has inspired many people who have decided to take to League of Legends for the first time, and to begin this journey (which promises to be terrible for you) who better than to play with one of the main characters of series ?

And according to the latest numbers, Arcane has truly expanded all the way to Summoner’s Rift, as the show’s character utilization rate skyrocketed on LoL upon the release of the first episode on November 6.

Many new players have entered LoL thanks to the Arcane series.

According to data from LoLalytics, seven of the eight League of Legends champions who appear in Arcane have seen their usage rates increase sharply since the show’s launch.

Caitlyn is by far the most popular, rising from 14.99% on November 6 to over 26.1% at the time of this article’s publication.

Additionally, the fact that Riot gave out Caitlyn, Jinx, Vi, and Jayce for free to LoL players when the series launched also made it easier to access these champions without having to obtain Blue Essence.

The sisters Jinx and Vi have also seen their popularity skyrocket, doubling or even tripling since Arcana began. They are respectively at 18.38% and 15.4% pickrate.

Jayce’s utilization rate also tripled, from 3.68% to 8.24%, peaking at one point at 11.85%. Its Hextech partner, Viktor, saw its rate increase from 2.53% to 4.17%.

Caitlyn 14.99% 26.1% 26.1%
Ekko (Jungle) 7.98% 6.96% 8.3%
Ekko (Mid) 3.1% 3.31% 3.86%
Heimerdinger (Top) 1.08% 1.33% 1.33%
Heimderdinger (Mid) 0.8% 1.15% 1.26%
Jayce 3.68% 8.24% 11.85%
Jinx 11.85% 18.38% 18.38%
Singed 1.37% 2.3% 2.3%
We 5.74% 15.4% 18.14%
Viktor 2.53% 4.17% 4.17%

There is one exception to this trend, however, and that is Ekko.

The Boy Who Broke Time didn’t make a nominative appearance in Act 2, and that might explain why his pickrate dropped in his Jungle lead from 7.98% to 6.96%.

With Act 3 soon to close this first season of Arcane, we believe more and more players will decide to log into League of Legends for the first time.
