here is the first information on the use of the virtual reality headset of the PS5

Since last year, Sony has started communication around the PlayStation VR2, the next new generation virtual reality headset specially designed for the PS5. So far, the Japanese firm has confirmed the name of the helmet, presented the design, the new controllers and the first games. Unfortunately, we are still waiting for the main information like price and release date.

Today, Sony decides to present us the user experience of its headphones with new features. Here’s what to remember.

One of the great novelties of PlayStation VR2 will be to integrate a transparent camera. In other words, you will be able to see your environment while wearing the helmet, which will be very practical for moving around without having to remove it or even to find your controllers.

This functionality will be possible thanks to the cameras integrated into the helmet. Simply press the function button on the headset, or use the corresponding Map in the Control Center to choose between the “normal” view of your headset or the transparent view. Like most VR headsets, there will also be a Control Center which provides quick access to other PS VR2 settings, such as adjusting your play space.

For owners of an HD camera on PS5, it will be possible to film yourself and broadcast the content while you play your game in virtual reality. Sony does not specify whether it will require other additional accessories, such as a green background. On the other hand, this functionality could be very interesting.

Personalization of the game space

To play in complete safety, and for your greatest comfort, it will be possible to completely personalize your playing space (as in Meta Quest 2). Using the PS VR2 Sense controllers, built-in cameras and transparent view, you will be able to draw a safe zone in which you will be able to play without problems.

Thanks to this zone, the helmet will detect your movements. When you are inside the latter, you will be able to play without constraints. On the other hand, warning messages will appear on your helmet if you go out of bounds. The objective of this new feature is to ensure maximum safety for players to prevent them from hurting themselves with an object in their environment.

Sony says you can change your settings at any time while the PlayStation VR2 is connected. Once your game space is set up, the settings are saved. However, they will be lost if you change game space.

PlayStation VR2: VR Mode and Cinematic Mode

Sony confirms PSVR2’s dual mode. In VR mode, it will be possible to enjoy your VR games in a 360° virtual environment. Content will be displayed in 4000 x 2040 HDR (2000 x 2040 per eye) video format with 90Hz/120Hz frame rate.

For the cinematic mode, it is a cinema mode with a large screen. It will be possible to display the interface of the PS5 as well as all the applications (Netflix, YouTube…) and to view all this on a virtual cinema screen. Content in cinematic mode will be displayed in a 1920×1080 HDR video format with frame rates of 24/60Hz, and even up to 120Hz.

Sony is expected to communicate and share new information about the PlayStation VR2 soon with the release date and a new list of games expected on the headset. In the meantime, we will have to show a little patience.
