Goodbye FIFA 23, hello EA Sports FC?

As we told you a few days ago, after PES (Pro Evolution Soccer) which was abandoned by Konami in favor of eFootball 2022, there is a good chance that the eternal rival could also disappear. According to many rumors, Electronic Arts could abandon FIFA as early as the year 2022.

With the filing of a new brand by the American publisher, these rumors continue to grow. Now here is EA Sports FC.

EA Sports FC 23 instead of FIFA 23?

A few days ago, Cam Weber, the general manager of the EA Sports group confirmed during a review with investors that Electronic Arts was considering a name change for its legendary FIFA license. What the CEO did not clarify is that the new title for the series appears to have already been found. If we are to believe the United Kingdom’s Intellectual Property Office (a site for registering trademarks), Electronic Arts would already have a name in mind to replace FIFA. The game of football could therefore be called EA Sports FC.

For the moment, nothing official. Although this trademark is registered and owned by EA, the American publisher can wait until December 2022 to make its choice to renew the rights of its license. Or not.

EA said it is “revising its licensing agreement with FIFA” around its football video game franchise and that it “may sever ties with FIFA and rename its series,” according to @Amarjournalist_ of @SkyNews

EA has until December 2022 to decide whether to extend its license with FIFA to retain the naming rights.
The license was initially extended in 2013.
Either EA thinks it can sell football games without the FIFA branding, or it is a public negotiation tactic.

Answer in the coming months, one thing is certain, this possibility is already debated in the FIFA community with fans who do not want to experience the same chaos as PES fans with eFootball.
