Mads Mikkelsen will play Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3. He will take over from Johnny Depp, ousted from the cast. However, he does not intend to copy the acting game of his predecessor.
Entangled in a case of domestic violence, Johnny Depp was finally excluded from the cast of Fantastic Beasts 3. As a reminder, he played the role of Gellert Grindelwald, a very powerful dark mage who notably succeeded in getting his hands on the dreaded wand of elderberry. The interpretation of Depp had in particular been hailed by the critics. But following his ousting, he had to find a replacement.
The choice ultimately fell on Mads Mikkelsen. This Danish actor has already appeared in Rogue One, Coco Chanel and Igor Stravinsky, Casino Royale, The Silent Warrior and a slew of other films. And he will have a lot to do to succeed Johnny Depp brilliantly in the third installment of Fantastic Beasts. Asked about this by Collider, he wanted to dot the i’s, stating that he did not intend to imitate his predecessor in any way at all.
