Cyberpunk 2077’s next-gen optimization may not be for this year

Obviously, it’s complicated to make promises

In its latest financial report, CD Project Red admits that Cyberpunk 2077 optimization for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S | X may take longer than expected. Now hoped for the end of the year, the Polish studio indicates that a slippage in 2022 cannot be ruled out, reports Gamekult.

Even if the business development manager of the firm, Michał Nowakowski, thinks that the update will be available at the end of the year, the latter believes that a project in development remains by nature unpredictable, and that a change in the schedule may occur. Nowakowski admits that lessons learned from the past year force the studio to remain cautious.

This lack of optimism in an exit from l’optimisation next-gen for this year can be explained by significant movements in the staff for 6 months. At the start of the year, more than half of the developers of CD Projekt Red were working on the famous patches of Cyberpunk 2077 and its port to the next-gen console. Today, much has been redirected to the development of the first real expansion of the game. The latter should not come too late.

Likewise, CD Projekt Red wants to be careful with the promised next-gen optimization of The Witcher 3 also for the end of the year, but like porting on Switch, it’s Saber Interactive who manages. As a result, the Polish studio has less control over the project.

With Cyberpunk 2077 returns to PlayStation Store last June with the problems that we know him, the futuristic RPG found itself again at the top of the sales for a while. Unfortunately, CD Projekt is still not sharing an update on sales figures, despite one of the most impressive starts in the history of the industry with 13 million copies sold on the day of Cyberpunk 2077, at the end of 2020.

Thereby, the first half of 2021 hardly does better than the first half of 2020. If the turnover increased by more than 20% to 104 million euros, the net profit is slightly dull : 23.3 million euros against 32.5 last year. We can easily blame it on the extended development of Cyberpunk 2077, there where The Witcher 3 development costs have been amortized for a long time.
