Call of Duty: A new episode to be released for the fourth quarter

Call of Duty: A new episode to be released for the fourth quarter.

During a conference call with its shareholders, Activision announced that Call of Duty would have the right to its traditional annual paid episode in 2021, despite the series’s various free episodes.

If it will not surprise anyone to know that a new episode of Call of Duty is planned for the fourth quarter of 2021 since it is the case every year at the same period since 2005 with Call of Duty 2, this year Activision has qualified this opus of “high premium iteration” Call of Duty in opposition to free titles like Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Mobile.

Faced with the success of the latter, the announcement of a new paid episode does not seem as obvious today as before, and it is for this reason that Activision-Blizzard wanted to confirm that it does not was not going to deviate from his rule in 2021:

“We have a substantial opportunity to continue migrating the community to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, as well as another strong premium iteration for Q4 2021.”

For now, the studio in charge of this project has still not been revealed, but it is likely either Infinity Ward, Treyarch, or Sledgehammer Games, with which Activision is working on the series for years.

To choose, Sledgehammer would surely be the ablest to develop this next opus since the studio has not worked on a Call of Duty since Call of Duty: WWII in 2017, while Infinity Ward and Treyarch respectively developed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, released in 2019 and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War released in 2020. Stay tuned for the next update.
