The Hazard Zone mode of Battlefield 2042 promises to be intense!

Battlefield 2042 Hazard Zone Trailer

This Thursday, October 14, EA has finally unveiled the trailer for the new Hazard Zone mode of Battlefield 2042:

Comment works mode Hazard Zone in Battlefield 2042?

Basically, Hazard Zone is all about recovering data drives. Squads of four players land on a map and their top priority is locating those data drives hidden everywhere. Once you have collected your documents, your team must then extract themselves from the map, otherwise the collected coins will not count.

It is an intense mode where every action must be considered. With teams all fighting for the same goals and extraction points, only a handful can win.

To put it simply, Hazard Zone is best explained when broken down into five phases.

Hazard Zone Phase 1 – “Team and Strategy”

Hazard Zone Battlefield 2042

Teamwork is essential in Hazard Zone!

Before your team arrives on the map, first comes the planning phase in Hazard Zone. During this initial phase, teams will have the opportunity to define their strategy, choose their specialists and purchase the right equipment.

Depending on the map, your drop point, and your general intentions, you’ll mix up a lot of tactics. This first phase gives you plenty of time to lock in the right gear for the fight to come.

Black Market Credits can be used during this phase. The currency you earned in previous rounds can now be exchanged for various tools and accessories. Whether it’s tactical buffs for better stats or just different weapons and gear, here’s where you can stock up before every round.

Hazard Zone Phase 2 – “Insertion”

Phase 2 is where the action really begins in Hazard Zone. Your team will automatically be assigned a drop point. It’s up to you to explore the area and find the hidden data drives.

Given the breadth of each map in Battlefield 2042, these drop points will be spaced far enough apart that you don’t run into teams immediately. You will have to move forward together to make contact with the enemy.

Hazard Zone Phase 3 – “Extraction”

Which extraction will you choose?

It is absolutely essential that at least one player on your team be equipped with an intelligence scanner. This equipment is exclusive to Hazard Zone mode and is essential to find the data drives.

A player must scan the environment for “Data Drives”, while the other squad members take care of its protection.

Once you find an objective, stick together and collect it. Keep in mind that multiple data readers will be on the map throughout the game, so if you miss the early satellite crashes you will always have a chance to pick up more later.

Also, if a member of your team falls to the ground, it’s not the end of the world.

Players can be called back in two ways in Hazard Zone. First through squad strengthening tactical improvement, then via reinforcement stations located on each map.

Hazard Zone Phase 4 – “First Extraction”

With the data drives now recovered, your job changes. Now all eyes should be on the extraction to actually claim the goals. If you fail to extract yourself, none of your data drives will count.

There are two intervals during which your squad can escape during the danger zone. The first appears a few minutes after starting the game at a random location.

Secure the area, have your team get on the helicopter and you will be on your way to a successful mission in Hazard Zone.

Hazard Zone Phase 5 – “Last Extraction”

If you’d rather play, rack up some more data drives, or wait for the final ripping, you’ve got one final change towards the end of a match. The second helicopter arrives between the last 10 to 12 minutes and is the only remaining escape.

Did you miss the first extraction? It is now your only chance to get away from it all with one of your data readers.

Only one player from your team needs to make it out alive, but the more of you, the better your chances of winning.

What are Black Market Credits in Battlefield 2042?

So what are you actually competing for in Battlefield 2042 Hazard Zone? Black market credits are what is at stake.

Collecting data drives and extracting them with them in hand will award your team a fair amount of Black Market Credits. It’s about a exclusive currency usable only in Hazard Zone.

Before your next game starts, this currency will be available to you and your team. In phase 1, black market credits can be exchanged for a wide range of upgrades and equipment !

This is where you buy better weapons, accessories, and even tactical upgrades (more details below).

So every successful mission in Hazard Zone will overwhelm your team with Black Market Credits to then use for upgrades in the next game. It’s a never-ending cycle as you seek victories and constantly upgrade your equipment.

Hazard Zone map and lobby size

It is confirmed that Hazard Zone will be played on all maps in All Out Warfare mode already announced for Battlefield 2042.

If you’re on PC, PS5, or Xbox Series S | X, you’ll stumble into Hazard Zone with 32 players in the lobby. Meanwhile, if you’re playing on a PS4 or Xbox One, your lobby size will be rather limited to 24 players.

Specialist Restrictions in Hazard Zone

Before heading into Hazard Zone, it should be noted that there are restrictions in place for specialists. Unlike All Out Warfare and Breakthrough, Hazard Zone only allows one specialist.

This means that the four players on your team have to fulfill a different role. For example, you can’t have three identical support specialists.

Therefore, choosing the composition of your team is extremely important. You’ll want to balance everything out to have a good mix of aggressive and defensive abilities.

All tactical improvements in Hazard Zone

Tactical buffs are essential in Hazard Zone, as they provide significant boosts that you can’t get anywhere else.

They can be purchased during Phase 1 with Black Market Credits your team earned in previous games. Each of these offers a unique advantage, with some being much more powerful than others.

Below is the full list of all Tactical Upgrades available in Hazard Zone at launch:

  • Starting armor : Start with +20 additional armor
