AVM has updated the page on which it states for each AVM device (Fritzbox, Wlan-Repeater, Powerline, Fon and Dect) whether the Berlin company still offers “Personal Support” for it: So whether you still have the support Call the hotline for help. The Deskmodder.de site noticed that AVM has now stopped supporting some Fritzbox models: Fritzbox 3490 and 4020 as well as Fritz-Repeater 1750E and 310.
How to reach support at AVM
Here you can see whether your device is still supported
This is the AVM Product Support Status page. There are five categories: For Fritzbox, Wlan-Repeater, Powerline, Fon (the DECT telephones) and DECT (the smart home accessories such as smart lights, thermometers, radiator thermostats and radio-controlled sockets).
Important: Click on the “+” on the bottom right of the respective page to display all devices. Because AVM initially hides the devices that are no longer supported. You only see this when you click on the “+”. For example, there is no longer any support for the first radiator thermostat from AVM, the Fritz Dect 300. This means that you will not receive any new software or support via email or telephone. However, this thermostat still works perfectly, so you don’t have to throw it away.
That means the loss of support in concrete terms
But back to the Fritz boxes. Deskmodder noticed that the tick for “Personal Support” has been removed for the Fritzbox models 3490 and 4020 and for the Fritz repeaters 1750E and 310. This means that you will no longer receive any help for these four devices if you call the AVM support hotline or use AVM’s mail support.
In addition, AVM no longer provides firmware updates for the devices in question that bring new functions (“end of maintenance”). So you will no longer receive a new Fritz OS version for these devices. On the other hand, AVM could also publish emergency updates that close newly discovered security gaps for devices that no longer receive personal support. You have to wait and see on a case-by-case basis.
On the AVM support list, you can also see for each device how long AVM offers its manufacturer’s warranty for it. With a 5-year manufacturer’s guarantee (2 years for Powerline devices and DECT telephones as well as DECT smart home devices), AVM is unusually generous here. The long manufacturer’s warranty together with the long period in which AVM offers firmware updates with new functions for its devices are almost a real unique selling point for AVM devices. After all, Apple also provides software updates for its devices for a long time, but Apple skimps on the warranty.
