Amazon Prime Video Ligue 1: all you need to know about the new channel

The Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 television rights were the subject of a fierce battle in June 2021. And as surprising as it may seem, this is the company Amazon which pocketed all the broadcasting rights for the two championships, for a total amount of 250 million euros.

« We are extremely happy to start this partnership with the Professional Football League and to stream the best of Ligue 1 on Prime Video »Commented Frédéric Duval to AFP, the general manager of Amazon France.

After showing the Champions League in Italy on Prime Video, Amazon has therefore become the main broadcaster of Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 in France, making a real snub to BeIN Sports or Canal +. The company is thus gradually becoming essential for the broadcasting of French sporting events, since Jeff Bezos’ company has been offering all Roland-Garros matches for two years now.

For the comments, Amazon hired four journalists well known to football fans: Marina Lorenzo, Smaïl Bouabdellah, Thibault Le Rol and Julien Brun. The Prime Video Ligue 1 channel will be launched on August 1, 2021 on the occasion of the Lille-PSG Champions Trophy which will take place in Israel, in Tel Aviv.
