Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2: Developers will continue to make narrative changes

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2: Developers will continue to make narrative changes.

For the sequel to FF7 Remake, the developers want to continue the momentum by making narrative changes beyond fans’ expectations.

In an interview with CEDEC (The Computer Entertainment Developers Conference), Naoki Hamaguchi (co-director) and Yoshinori Kitase (producer) discussed their approach to creating the narrative structure of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2 and taking satisfying the expectations of the fans.

With FF7 Remake, they wanted to “fool” players in a positive way by adding significant changes, which meant more variations of the original game for the sequel, and Kitase seems to want to keep the momentum going:

“Those who played the original game probably know what’s going on in the story and are curious about what will happen next.”

“However, precisely because they know the script, it allows us to deliver something to them that they expect and that it makes them say to themselves, “ah, that’s what really happened!”, and at the same time show them something that not only surprises them but goes beyond their expectations.”

“Since we already have the original game, if we can correctly express these elements, it can become something that players look forward to. We did that in Part 1, and those who have played it already have an idea of what kind of game we are making.”

“We want to create a game that lives up to their expectations but destroys them in a good way, I mean.”

According to him, the team intends to bring the same level of detail as Midgar to the rest of the world of Final Fantasy VII, always “surprising and going beyond the players’ expectations.”

FF7R Part 2 is expected to deepen the combat system of the title released last year by adding new mechanics and elements.

Hamaguchi mentioned that due to the original game’s length, to portray the events of FF7 Remake 2 realistically, narrative elements will be added to a few passages of the original material.

As a reminder, Square Enix has registered trademarks related to FF7 Remake in Japan and then in Europe. Stay tuned for the next update.
