Vivo Shows World’s First Smartphone With Working In-Display Fingerprint Sensor at CES 2018

So Vivo has finally done what Samsung and Apple couldn’t – launching a smartphone with in-display fingerprint sensor. The company has formally unveiled world’s first smartphone with this long awaited technology at CES, and everyone is surprised at how flawless and perfect it is. I repeat – it’s not a prototype – it’s a smartphone that’s going to be released in the market within a short span of time.

The sensor is hidden behind the 6-inch edge-to-edge display of this smartphone, and it unlocks your device just as any traditional fingerprint sensor would. The only difference is that rather than placing your finger on a physical sensor you place it on the fingerprint icon that shows on your screen. Once your phone is unlocked, that sign goes away, and no one will even come to know that there’s actually a fingerprint sensor underneath. It’s very natural.

The setup and authentication mechanisms are pretty much the same. However, some of you may have a complaint with it – it’s not as fast as a traditional fingerprint sensor! And that is because of how it operates. But it’s also not too slow either – we’re talking about unlocking in a second, as you can see in the video given below. It’s just that it’s not as fast as a traditional sensor, which is acceptable because it’s a new technology.

Thanks to this successful implementation, the phone has also got very narrow bezels and there’re no awkwardly situated fingerprint sensors on the back. It’s also thinner than other smartphones with physical sensors, and these things collectively make it the most comfortable to use bezel-less smartphone. Nothing more is known about it as of now, as the company will reveal the details at a commercial launch event very soon, after which it will be available for purchase in select few markets.
