It seems that this time it’s going to happen. If reports from The Korea Herald are true then probably Samsung is all set to reveal its Galaxy X foldable smartphone in 2018. In fact, it has already started showing the “almost finished” smartphone behind closed doors to a select number of its clients along with production and launch schedules.

According to the report, there’re two versions of the device being shown to the lucky few behind the curtains – one folds in, while another folds out. Both have a 7.3-inch 4K HD display, and just as expected, both can be transformed into tablets by unfolding into their respective directions. The devices were shown on January 10, and the number of clients who saw them was also larger this year than the numbers of last year.

Based on some other reports from ETNews it’s expected that Samsung will start mass production of its 7.3-inch flexible displays for these smartphones by March. Manufacturing of panels will begin by September, and the phones themselves will enter production phase in November. That will mean a launch either by the end of this year or sometime in early 2019.

In case you don’t know, Samsung Galaxy X foldable smartphone has a very long history. The company has been working on it for 7 years now, and there have been numerous instances when the project got delayed due to its complicated nature. At first, this smartphone was expected to launch sometime in 2013. That obviously didn’t happen, after which a Samsung executive promised the launch by end of 2014, but the deadline was missed once again.

But now when almost finished prototypes of the handset are being shown, it can be expected that we’re not too far from commercial launch as well. Now it’ll be interesting to see how long it takes from here.
